Linda Chamberlain

Linda Chamberlain, Ph.D., is the executive director for the Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Grand Valley State University.

Dr. Chamberlain joined the Initiative in 2003 as commercialization director, following the development of a successful product commercialization consulting practice. She was named interim executive director in April 2007, and that title became permanent in September 2007.  As of March 2, 2010, Grand Valley State University named her the executive director of their new Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.  She will continue to assist the Initiative with commercialization, coaching and facilitation of the West Michigan Medical Device Consortium.

Dr. Chamberlain's background includes extensive product research and development. She has more than 20 years of experience in the technology and life science industries, where she began as a research chemist with the Shell Chemical Company. During her eight years at Shell, she had 19 patents issued for work in catalyst, polymer, and product/process development. Dr. Chamberlain next served as director of research and technology, engineering plastics for AlliedSignal where she was involved in development of resins for a variety of consumer products. She joined Johnson Controls, Inc. in 1997 as director of advanced manufacturing and was later appointed global executive director of new product and business development. In addition to her work at the Initiative, Dr. Chamberlain is the owner and principle of InnoValuations, LLC, a company that focuses on ensuring companies have the processes and tools to extract the full value of their best innovations.

Chamberlain currently serves as a board member of a number of life science organizations, including the Michigan Israel Business Bridge, ClinXus® and MichBio.

She received both her bachelor's degree in chemistry and her Ph.D. from Purdue University. She was awarded a presidential postdoctoral fellowship from the University of California, Irvine.

Her past honors include: 50 Most Influential Women in West Michigan for 2008 as well as 2010, Top 100 Women in the Automotive Industry in 1998 and a 2008 Regional Thought Leader/Mentor.
